North Country: two thumbs down :)
Usually Hollywood does justice to real life stories, like Erin Brokovich (screw the spelling) or Insider, but this one is slow dull and never gets any grip on the audience.
Screenplay, pretty bad, there are some good scenes towards the end of the movie, if only the adaptation was able to fit in some more good writing from the start.

Charlize Theron, is ok in the role. Creditibility to her inclination to doing roles which go beyond the looks, but still its upto the director and writer to create room for the actors to perform, which surely is missing here.

Frances McDormand is brilliant in the supporting role as fellow mine worker. (hope she gets a oscar nomination)

Rest its just a sluggish movie.

Movies to watch when u want something different:

Ran: A king with 3 sons, a haunting past and a just ending, to say anything more would be to give away this awesome Kurosawa classic.

Dial M for Murder: Simplicity marks this twisted murder plot. The various remakes of this movie (A perfect murder, Aitbaar [hindi]) all fail to reproduce what Hitchcock adds to the simple plot.

The Sword of Doom: I love the ending of this one. Some very intense sword fighting, another of samurai classics from Akira Kurosawa.

La Strada: Fellini to me frankly is very hard to digest. In spite of the movie being simple, there are just lots of things. The philosopher is labelled a fool, innocent Gelsomina is made a clown and there is a cruel beast in Zambino who break chains with his chest. A good movie for passive deep thought mood.

Yojimbo and Sanjuro : Toshiro Mifune at one his best roles. A drifting samurai, with a brain as sharp and fast as his samurai sword.


Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (aka Amelie): a nice love story of two ppl with lots of quirks. Quirks are the one which add flavor to this movie. So all you dating couple don't hide ur quirks thye might just spice up the things :)

Das Boot: Again a brilliant ending makes this 3+ hrs long German U-boot saga of hope despair and hope.

Nuremberg Trial: if u are fascinated by wwII and associated events, then this movie will suit ur taste buds.

City of God (Cida de deus') : Brazilian gang war movie.

Snatch: Guy Ritchie's fast paced criminal/gypsi diamond chasing is a fun filled ride.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels: Another Guy Ritchie beauty.

Lola Rennt (run lola run): no other film offers u the choice to pick your own story and your own ending ... this one does :)

Cinema Paradisio: simple a beautiful movie.

Lucia y al sexo (Sex and Lucia): awesome story, beautiful Paz Vega, sexy strip tease, rauchy number, pretty good movie.

Belle Epoque (the age of beauty): every man would jealous of the protogonists luck in this movie.

Nine Queens (Movie from Argentina): and u thot u can always figure out the clever twists in the end ... well proly u might enjoy this one then ... movie about two street thugs and their big one...

Todo sobre mi madre (All about my mother): touching movie :) when u are feeling sentimental or just mental :)

Amores Perros (Love is a bitch): When u are in need of some exceptional and original story, this is simply the BEST period.

Satya (hindi): my favorite gangsta movie :) no bullshit total action with good story line and performances.
